The jewel of the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau region, nestled among majestic mountains, the scenic municipality of Lac Sainte-Marie has become a favorite of vacationers and outdoor enthusiasts. Its history goes back to 1840 when the area was first opened to settlers, mostly farmers and lumbermen. In 1928, following the development of the Paugan hydro-electric dam, the site of the original village was flooded and all inhabitants relocated. The flood transformed the lake that gave the village its name into a larger and more beautiful one, much enjoyed by tourists, who soon began building cottages on its shores. Key local attractions include Mont Ste-Marie, a popular destination for golfers and downhill skiers (24 slopes)!
“Each winter, ski groups would ask about a place large enough to accommodate them all but nothing of this size existed in the region. One day, I just decided to build it. And that’s how Resort Lac Ste-Marie was born.”
ALAIN DECELLES
Alain Decelles first came to Lac-Ste-Marie in 2002, on a short visit with his wife. He instantly fell in love with the area and the couple purchased their first property, the Blue Cottage, shortly after. Each winter, ski groups would ask about a place large enough to accommodate them all but nothing of this size existed in the region. “One day, I just decided to build it. And that’s how Resort Lac Ste-Marie was born.”
The incredible lakefront property was owned by Mr. Hubald Morin who spent all his life here. Alain knew he had to share this scenic piece of paradise with as many people as he could; instead of turning it into yet another sumptuous family home, he decided to build a spacious resort. He pledged not to destroy the heritage farm buildings, built by Mr Morin’s father. Thus, the 4,500sq ft barn was restored and integrated into a 3-story, 7,500sq ft complex, finally able to accommodate large ski groups, wedding parties and anyone looking to spend an unforgettable time in this unique setting.
